Ep 8. Thoughts on Shame, Toothpaste, and the 'Easy Things' That Aren’t Actually Easy

You are not lazy. When the size of the task does not correlate to the size of the struggle.

Today’s episode is a little different—but honestly, probably one of the most important ones I’ve recorded in a while.

It started with a post I made on Threads about how much I hate brushing my teeth. Not forget to. Not skip on accident. I mean viscerally hate it—like every cell in my body revolts. And apparently? I’m not alone. The responses were overwhelming.

This episode isn’t really about toothpaste though.
It’s about shame.
The kind we silently carry for not being able to do the “easy” things.
The stuff everyone else seems to manage without a second thought—showering, dishes, answering a text, making a phone call.

But if you’re neurodivergent—or chronically overstimulated, burnt out, or tired in a way you can’t fully explain—those tasks aren’t easy. They’re loud. They’re heavy. They stack up and make you feel like a failure before the day even starts.

So this one’s for you.

For the girl staring at the sock on the floor she’s noticed 10 times and still hasn’t picked up.
For the one crying in her car because brushing her teeth feels like a whole event.
For anyone who has ever wondered, “Why can I do hard things, but not the ‘easy’ ones?”

You’re not lazy. You’re just tired.
And you’re still trying. That matters.
